Who is Sociative?
Sociative discovers the best content on the social, real-time web, on any subject by watching what topical influencers are talking about. We then rank that content it by relevance and tune it to engage a particular audience. Our core product is syndication of high quality content feeds to media and marketing companies. As part of that, we produce and host white label sites, skinned to match any brand, which can launch quickly, incorporate best practice SEO, analytics, and social network integration — without significant effort by in-house IT resources. Our products are multi-platform: desktop, laptop, tablet, smartphone, or any web-ready device. [ back to top ]
How does this work?
What is an influencer?
What is an influencer network?
For any topic, there are leaders, experts and enthusiasts who are posting articles, and whose posts have high influence value — we call these people topical influencers. Sociative's proprietary Smartocracy ™ technology finds and ranks each group of topical influencers. This group is called the influencer network for the topic. Our system then listens to what this network of people are talking about (i.e. posting on the social web) and determines the rank of stories based on the number of mentions by influencers, the influencer mojo and other proprietary factors. This results in the best content feeds on that topic at any point in time because it's essentially being curated by the world's leaders on that topic in real-time.
What is Smartocracy ™?
Smartocracy ™ is Sociative's propietary algorithm for meritocratic collective decision-making using social networks. It is an elegant, efficient, rapid way for groups of users of any size to make optimal collective decisions. It empowers all to participate without devaluing the expertise and knowledge of the most informed. Originally designed to facilitate crowd-funding decisions, our current products use it to decide what to pay attention to now. [ back to top ]
Where does Sociative find its content?
Currently Sociative finds its stories via influencer posts on Twitter. In the works is an expansion to all major social networks. As is, our current system finds great content in all corners of the real-time web listening to over 300,000 influencers and distilling content from over 1,000,000 news sources — and these numbers are increasing rapidly. What is influencer mojo?
Influencer mojo is a number between 0 and 1,000 indicating the "importance" or clout of that influencer in the subject at hand. An influencer will have different mojos on different subjects and on different Sociative sites because their relative importance depends on the subject and point of view in question. Example: Joe Smith might have a great mojo of 899 within the topic of Startups but have a mediocre mojo of 123 with the topic of Social Enterprise. [ back to top ]
Can I see an influencer network?
Yes, on most any of the sites Powered by Sociative you can click the link for the influencer network just below the page header. On sites with multiple topics and subtopics, there is an influencer network for each topic which contains and ranks only influencers who have mentioned stories that are in a specific topic. On sites with multiple raw influencer feeds, there is an influencer network for each feed which contains and ranks only influencers who our system deems to be part of the influencer network. What is a raw influencer feed?
A raw influencer feed (raw feed for short) is a list of all the stories our influencers are mentioning in Twitter, that are ranked according to mention count and influencer mojo and that meet other Sociative criteria. In some cases raw feeds, can be presented as topics to an audience without human curation. Generally however, feeds need a small amount of human curation to better serve the audience. Curation may include: promoting articles to Top Stories or other topics, minor editing, and probably the most important, eliminating stories that don't match the editorial voice for the readership in question. Our experience is that a very large site (e.g. +100 new articles per day) can be curated in a couple hours. You can see the site's raw influencer feeds on the right side of our headers (note: some of our sites refer to them as real-time feeds).
How do stories get into the Top Stories and other topics?
There are some automated exceptions on some of our sites, but generally the topics are fed by a simple human curation act as described above.
What is a mention?
A mention is a post of the story by an influencer within the influencer network for the topic.

We are rapidly building out our content offering across a broad spectrum of topics.
